Polin Sans: A Multiscript Typeface Inspired by Polish Modernism

The inception of Polin Sans emerged from a profound exploration into the realms of modernist aesthetics, as epitomized by the Alphabet "a.r." crafted by Władysław Strzemiński, and the rich tapestry of multiscript pre-war Warsaw. Delving into the geometric nuances of the Cyrillic alphabet variants led to a pivotal moment of inspiration—encountering "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov" sparked a revelation.

The graceful integration of circular forms, reminiscent of the Bulgarian Cyrillic, seamlessly melded into the classical rendition without impeding legibility, stood as a testament to the design's ingenuity. Concurrently, the allure of jaffa, a Hebrew typeface from the Idźkowski & Sk-a foundry, akin to the Hebrew equivalent of the Alphabet "a.r.", kindled fascination.

With the addition of Ben Nathan from Israel, the vision of a multiscript opus evolved, encompassing Greek and Vietnamese scripts. Thus, Polin Sans embodies a historical odyssey through the labyrinthine alleys of Polish modernism, a collaborative effort by creators hailing from diverse cultural landscapes.

Crafted by the adept hands of Mateusz Machalski and Ben Nathan, with unwavering support from Michał Gorczyca and Małgorzata Bartosik, Polin Sans stands as a testament to the harmonious convergence of artistry and cultural tapestry.
